TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian Deputy Navy Commander, Major General Mikhail Gudkov, was killed in a missile attack by Ukraine in the city of Kursk. Gudkov led a Russian marine unit involved in the war with Ukraine.
As reported by CBS News, Gudkov died from injuries sustained in the attack on the military administration building, according to the AiF website. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that Gudkov was killed during combat operations in one of the border areas of the Kursk region.

Gudkov was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the Russian Navy for coastal and ground forces by President Vladimir Putin in March. At that time, Putin said, "Since the minister and the Chief of the General Staff believe that your experience needs to be replicated in other units, I have decided to transfer you to a position - to increase your level of responsibility," as reported by CNN.
The Ukrainian military had previously accused Gudkov and other members of his former 155th brigade of war crimes, including killing civilians in the cities of Bucha, Irpin, and Gostomel in the early months of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Separately, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said the 155th brigade was involved in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Ukrainians see Gudkov's death as a morale boost in a tough week.
Last week, the Donald Trump administration said on Tuesday that the U.S. had halted arms deliveries to Ukraine. The suspension of US arms supplies raised concerns in Kyiv. The White House neither confirmed nor denied the withdrawal of weapons from delivery or a reduction in U.S. military support for Ukraine.
The announcement came about a week after Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The meeting took place during the NATO summit in the Netherlands. Speaking after their meeting, Trump said that he was considering sending additional Patriot missile batteries to Ukraine to help bolster the country's air defenses against Russian bombing.
