1. France Braces for Mass Protests Tomorrow, What Are the Demands?
France is preparing for a massive wave of protests and strikes on Thursday, September 18, 2025, with authorities expecting around 800,000 people to join demonstrations nationwide.
According to Al Arabiya, the mobilization will disrupt daily life, including road traffic, trains, and flights, while many schools are expected to close.
Labor unions have called for coordinated strike action to oppose the government’s proposed 2026 budget, which includes strict austerity measures aimed at reducing France’s growing debt.
2. Seven Workers Still Trapped in Freeport Indonesia Mine Landslide
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reported that two of the seven PT Freeport Indonesia workers trapped in an underground mine landslide are foreign nationals. The two are from Chile and South Africa, while the remaining five are Indonesian citizens.
The Director General of Mineral Resources at the ESDM, Tri Winarno, stated that the evacuation is still underway. "The foreign workers' respective embassies have been notified," he said at the parliament building complex on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Tri could not confirm when the evacuation would be completed or the workers' current condition. He added that the team on-site is working to move the debris blocking the mine shaft. "Only God knows the possibility of survival."
3. Police Accused of Wrongfully Arresting Students in Magelang Riot
A school student in Magelang, DRP, claims to have been a victim of mistaken arrest by the police. Authorities apprehended dozens of people after a riot erupted in Magelang on August 29, 2025.
Based on the confession of DRP and his parents, on that day, he did not participate in the protest. "He just went out to make a cash on delivery transaction," said Julian Duwi Prasetia, Director of the Legal Aid Institute of Yogyakarta, who accompanied DRP on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
DRP was arrested by the police when he was about to make a cash transaction for a delivery (Cash On Delivery or COD). "When he was buying gasoline, he was arrested and taken to the Magelang City Police Station," he said.
The police apprehended DRP along with dozens of others, mostly children. "When we counted, there were about 44 people," said Julian. They were later released.
