TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang predicts that the peak of the Eid homecoming return flow will occur in two distinct waves: the first on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, and the second on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

"Today we expect to serve 190,000 passengers, but the peak is still predicted on Saturday, March 28," said Heru Karyadi, General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Passenger movement on March 28, 2026, is estimated to reach 198,387 travelers across 1,221 flights.

Meanwhile, the flight routes contributing most to the traffic surge during this Eid transportation period include domestic destinations such as Bali's Denpasar, Medan's Kualanamu, Makassar, and Surabaya. For international routes, the most popular destinations remain Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Heru added that despite the significant spike in traffic, airport operations continue to run smoothly through strengthened inter-agency coordination and the optimization of services across the Soekarno-Hatta terminal areas.

The total volume of passenger traffic from Saturday, March 14, 2026 (D-7), to Tuesday (D+3 of Lebaran 2026), has reached 1,983,067 people.

Heru noted that these 1.9 million passengers were served by 13,184 aircraft movements or a 5.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2019 (before the Covid-19 pandemic), which was used as a benchmark for a normal recovery period.

"As of today, we have served a total of 13,184 flights, growing by 4.7 percent compared to 2025 and 5.6 percent compared to 2019," he stated.

He explained that this growth was driven by the rising traffic of passenger movements, which peaked on March 14, 2026, with an initial prediction of 177,000 people that ultimately realized 184,000 passengers. "And on March 18 (D-3), the realization reached 190,000 passengers," he added.

To support seamless travel, InJourney Airports has provided various transportation modes, such as shuttle buses, operating 24 hours a day. Meanwhile, the Skytrain operates until 11 p.m. Jakarta time, as it requires five hours for daily maintenance.

"We have never reduced our personnel readiness; the numbers remain the same as they were during the homecoming flow. However, our focus during this reverse flow has shifted toward the arrival area, from baggage claim and arrival corridors to transportation modes. This differs from the homecoming flow, which focused on departure areas, including parking lots, check-in counters, and boarding lounges," he said.
