TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Saudi Arabia produced a range of strategic agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation. In a joint statement, Prabowo and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) pledged to strengthen cross-sector partnerships.
The two leaders sealed investment deals worth approximately US$27 billion, or Rp437 trillion. According to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat, the cooperation will prioritize clean energy, the petrochemical industry, and aviation fuel services.
In the energy sector, agreements cover crude oil and its derivatives, refinery development, and the promotion of new and renewable energy. This includes initiatives in energy efficiency, carbon management, and clean hydrogen technology.
The collaboration also extends to healthcare, with both nations agreeing to improve medical services for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and boost investment in pharmaceuticals, vaccines, health technology, and workforce development.
Broadening Strategic Ties
The two sides also aim to deepen cooperation in the digital economy, industry, mining, agriculture, fisheries, food security, education, research, tourism, and culture. Strengthening aviation connectivity is seen as key to supporting broader economic ties.
In trade, both countries underlined the need to boost export-import volumes and maintain regular business forums through the Saudi-Indonesian Business Council.
As reported by Antara on July 3, 2025, Prabowo and MBS welcomed progress in the Free Trade Agreement negotiations between Indonesia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expressing hope that the talks would conclude soon to enhance regional trade flows.
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045 were highlighted as shared frameworks for long-term economic transformation and expanded partnerships.
Defense, Security, and Global Forums
On defense and security, both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in tackling terrorism, extremism, and cybersecurity, along with improving information sharing and joint training efforts.
The joint statement also conveyed their commitment to enhancing joint security cooperation and coordination on shared concerns, such as combating all forms of crime, terrorism, and extremism and its financing, as well as boosting collaboration in cybersecurity and the exchange of information, expertise, and training.
Saudi Arabia also underscored the importance of working together in multilateral platforms such as the G20, OIC, IMF, World Bank, and the Non-Aligned Movement to address global challenges and advocate for developing nations.
