The 44-year-old coach also assessed that Sesko is in a positive development phase despite not always being a starter. "Ben is in good shape. We discussed patience and his development process. He will be an important player for us in the long term," Carrick said.

In addition to the trio of Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko, goalkeeper Senne Lammens also played a role in ensuring United's victory. The young Belgian goalkeeper impressed with a number of crucial saves, including denying Michael Keane and Tyrique George in the final minutes of the match.

Carrick believes solid defense was key to securing the three points. "A clean sheet is just as important as a goal. We needed a collective performance to deal with Everton's pressure, and the players delivered," he said.

The victory extended Manchester United's unbeaten run in 2026, with five wins and one draw in six matches under Carrick. This result has put the interim manager in the conversation as a candidate for the permanent manager position.
