TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran and Oman have formed a joint committee to hold dialogue on the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Tuesday.
"After the delegation's visit to Muscat, Iran and Oman have formed a joint committee for dialogue on the Strait of Hormuz, the details of which will be published in a joint statement," Ghalibaf wrote on Telegram, as quoted by ANTARA.
Earlier this month, Iranian authorities stated that they are developing a shipping mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz in collaboration with Oman.
Last week, Iran and the United States signed an online memorandum of understanding stipulating an end to the military conflict that began on February 28.
The document also sets a timetable for the U.S. to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and for Iran to restore shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Technical talks between Iran and the U.S. mediated by Pakistan and Qatar took place in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on June 21.
