TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Zulkifli, the father of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Affan Kurniawan, said that the Indonesian Minister of Housing and Settlement, Maruarar Sirait, had given a house in Cileungsi, Bogor, West Java, to his family. Maruarar conveyed this gift when paying his respects at Zulkifli's residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Zulkifli said that initially, Maruarar offered a house in Tangerang and Bogor. "Choose one. For now, I chose Cileungsi," said Zulkifli when met at his residence on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
However, Zulkifli mentioned that the government still allowed him to change his choice. He said the government asked him to visit both houses. "Please choose, whether in Bogor or Tangerang," he said.
In addition to the house, Zulkifli mentioned that Maruarar had offered his eldest son, Adam Al Rasyid, a job at the Ministry of Housing and Settlement. Maruarar told Zulkifli that his son's salary at the Ministry of Housing and Settlement would be in line with the Regional Minimum Wage. "He offered a job to my son. My son said he wants it," he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Riza, the Deputy Minister for Village and Disadvantaged Regions Development, said that the provision of the house was President Prabowo Subianto's initiative. He said that Prabowo wanted to fulfill Zulkifli's wish to own a house.
On Friday night, President Prabowo paid his respects at Affan's residence along with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto. "Assistance, everything the family hoped for and desired, has been fulfilled by Bapak (President Prabowo), including the house," said Riza after paying his respects at the late residence on Friday, August 29, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Riza mentioned that having a house of their own had been a dream that Affan wanted to fulfill for his mother. This was because Affan and his family had been renting a small house.
He also mentioned that the late Affan had saved money and bought a piece of land for his family in Lampung, as well as bought a motorcycle for his younger sister.
Affan Kurniawan, an ojol driver, died after being crushed by a Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) vehicle during a protest that took place on Thursday, August 28. Affan's death sparked further protests the next day, not only in Jakarta but also in other areas such as Yogyakarta, Makassar, and Tasikmalaya.
