TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia welcomes private gas stations, Shell, and BP, to purchase fuel from Pertamina. "If there is still a shortage, (private gas stations) are welcome to buy from Pertamina," said Bahlil after the inauguration of the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of ESDM, Jakarta, on Friday, August 29, 2025.
Bahlil conveyed that the Energy Ministry has provided additional fuel import quotas for private gas stations by 10 percent compared to the fuel import quotas in 2024. For example, he continued, if company 'A' in 2024 obtained a fuel import quota of 100 million kiloliters (KL), then in 2025 the government would increase the fuel import quota to 110 million KL.
Bahlil suggested that private gas stations buy their fuel from Pertamina instead of relying on imports if they still lack fuel to distribute. "This is related to our export-import balance. I don't think it's favoritism, we give everything, but we also need to maintain our country's condition," he said.
He also mentioned that Pertamina has an ample supply of fuel, which private gas station operators can purchase. "Pertamina's stock is still abundant. I have to maintain our commodity balance. One indicator of good lifting and production is reducing imports, not increasing them. Please use up the stock first," said Bahlil.
Previously, Bahlil expressed his desire to strengthen Pertamina's role as a state-owned oil and gas company, amid the scarcity of fuel in several private gas stations. Bahlil also mentioned that they discussed Article 33 in the 1945 Constitution regarding the utilization of natural resources for the prosperity of the people.
This is also related to Pertamina's role as a state-owned enterprise responsible for meeting domestic fuel needs. Therefore, Bahlil aims to strengthen Pertamina amid the fuel scarcity.
