Indonesian Authorities Identify 20 Victims of West Bandung Landslide

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the Indonesian National Police has identified 20 victims of a landslide in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua Sub-district, West Bandung Regency, West Java.

All identified bodies have been handed over to their families.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disaster Management at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said that as of Monday, January 26, 2026, at 06:30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), a total of 38 body bags had been sent to the identification post.

“By Monday afternoon, 20 bodies had been identified and returned to their families, while 18 body bags remain under identification,” he said on Tuesday, January 27.

Search and rescue operations resumed Tuesday morning at 08:00 AM WIB, with additional heavy equipment deployed to expand search efforts in sectors A and B. At least nine excavators were mobilized to help clear landslide debris.

The BNPB reported that the joint SAR team comprises around 800 personnel, all working together to locate victims who may still be trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, the number of displaced residents at the Pasirlangu Village Office has reached 685. Refugees are being sheltered in two locations: the village sports hall, housing 353 people, and the village hall, accommodating 332 people.

To support the displaced, the BNPB has distributed essential supplies, including 200 staple food packages, 100 ready-to-eat meals, 50 folding mattresses, 100 blankets, 100 mats, and 50 hygiene kits.

The landslide struck Pasirlangu Village on Saturday, January 24, 2026, following heavy rainfall across West Bandung since Friday, January 23.
