Indonesia and Pakistan Ink Seven MoUs, from Education to Drug Prevention

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif witnessed the signing of 7 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries in Pakistan on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

The exchanged MoUs and cooperation agreements are as follows:

1. Agreement between the Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Pakistan Higher Education Commission (HEC) on the mutual recognition of Higher Education Certificates and Degrees;

2. Agreement between Indonesia and Pakistan on the Grant Program under "The Indonesian Aid Scholarships";

3. MoU between Indonesia's SMESCO and Pakistan's SMEDA on Strategic Partnerships in Facilitating Small and Medium Enterprises;

4. MoU between the National Archives of Indonesia and the Cabinet Division Represented by the National Archives of Pakistan, on Archival Cooperation;

5. MoU between the National Narcotics Agency of Indonesia and the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control of Pakistan on Cooperation in the Prevention and Eradication of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances, New Narcotic Substances, and Precursors;

6. MoU between the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency and the Pakistan Halal Authority in Halal Trade and Certification; and

7. MoU on Cooperation in the Healthcare Sector.

President Prabowo made a state visit to Pakistan on Monday, December 8, 2025. He was directly welcomed by Pakistan's Asif Ali Zardari and PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif upon arrival at Nur Khan Airport.

Prabowo was scheduled to make a state visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, on December 8-9, 2025. The visit was at the invitation of the Pakistani PM. 

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Prabowo's visit to Pakistan was his first as a head of state.
