TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The first indirect negotiation session between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, in Qatar reportedly ended without result.
Several Palestinian officials reported that the Israeli delegation did not have sufficient mandate to reach an agreement with Hamas, as reported by Sputnik and quoted by Antara on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Axios correspondent, Barak Ravid, said the initial meeting discussed the mechanism to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
On Saturday, Ynet reported that Israeli authorities had sent a delegation to Qatar for proximity talks regarding a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
Previously, the resistance group had given a positive response to the ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip and was ready to negotiate.
On June 29, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt and other mediator countries were working hard to achieve a 60-day ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave so that the hostages could be released.
The indirect talks ended inconclusively, coinciding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, as reported by Anadolu.
This visit concerns discussion on various regional issues, including the Gaza ceasefire and a prisoner exchange agreement.
In his third visit to the U.S. in six months, Netanyahu is expected to discuss with Trump a new proposal for a Gaza ceasefire and a hostage exchange agreement.
"We are working to secure a deal under terms we have agreed to. I sent a negotiating team with clear instructions, and my conversation with President Trump may help move things forward," Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Netanyahu as saying before boarding the plane.
