TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar will be included in the squad for the final Group C match of the 2026 World Cup against Scotland at Miami Stadium in the United States, Thursday, June 25, at 05.00 Indonesian time.
Neymar, Ancelotti said, has recovered 100 percent from the right calf muscle injury that caused him to miss the Selecao's first two matches at the 2026 World Cup, against Morocco and Haiti.
"Neymar is available. He worked this week and can be available for the match," Ancelotti said, as quoted on the Brazilian national team's official website on Wednesday, as quoted by ANTARA.
Neymar last played for Brazil in October 2023 when his country played in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. Since then, he has missed 32 matches for Brazil, including four at the 2024 Copa America and two at the 2026 World Cup.
However, Ancelotti remains convinced that Neymar's quality, while not what it once was, is still very useful for his team.
Moreover, only Neymar is the most experienced member of the current squad, having made 128 appearances, with 79 goals and 59 assists, since his debut in August 2010. The player closest to Neymar's cap tally is Marquinhos, who has 107 appearances.
"We are very happy that he is back because, obviously, with his quality, he can help the team," said Ancelotti of Neymar, who will be playing in his fourth World Cup since his debut in 2014 on home soil.
Brazil only needs a tie to advance automatically to the round of 32. However, they need a win to advance as group winners. At the same time, Morocco, which has a chance to win the group, will face Haiti at Atlanta Stadium.
"Obviously, we won’t focus on the match against Morocco, but on the match we have to play; we have to do it well," said the former Real Madrid coach.
