TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) presented 30 robots during the 79th Bhayangkara Day celebration at the National Monument in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. These included 10 humanoid robots designed to resemble humans, 13 robot dogs or "robodogs," and seven bomb disposal robots.

Polri Inspector General Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo explained that each robot serves a different function.

“Humanoids focus on public interaction and education,” Dedi said in a statement released on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Humanoid robots are already in use in several countries for a variety of purposes. The following are six nations that utilize humanoid robots in different ways:

Japan

According to Robozaps, Japan is a global pioneer in robotics. The country is renowned not only for its technological innovations but also for its openness to integrating robots into the workforce.

Japan primarily uses robots to address issues related to an aging population and labor shortages.
Notable examples include Pepper by SoftBank Robotics, which can interact with humans and recognize emotions, and Honda’s ASIMO, a highly advanced humanoid robot capable of walking, running, and performing complex tasks.

South Korea

South Korea has become a hub for cutting-edge robotic development, driven by both government and private sector investment.

Companies such as ROBOTIS produce humanoid robots and robotic components, including Darwin-OP, widely used in education and research. Another firm, Hanwha, focuses on developing robots for industrial and public service applications.

United States

The robotics industry in the United States is expanding rapidly, supported by venture capital, prominent universities, and major corporations.

The country is home to Boston Dynamics, known for Atlas, a highly agile humanoid robot. Tesla is also working on Optimus, a humanoid robot designed to handle repetitive tasks.

China

China has quickly become a major player in humanoid robotics, supported by extensive government funding and a large workforce.

UBTECH Robotics is one of the leading companies, known for Walker X, a robot capable of walking, running, and grasping objects. China also developed Sophia, a humanoid robot designed for realistic human interaction.

Germany

Germany’s strong engineering tradition is evident in its robotics industry, which focuses on industrial and service-oriented robots.

KUKA Robotics is one of the country’s leading firms, deploying humanoid robots for manufacturing applications.

Spain

Spain is gradually establishing itself in the global robotics scene. One of its key contributors is PAL Robotics, which developed the REEM-C humanoid robot used in research and service industries.
